FROM THE VAULT: The Opening Ceremony of the 2011 Rugby World Cup in Auckland was internationally hailed as a spellbinding and spectacular opening to the Tournament.

In just 30 minutes, this memorable show told the story of New Zealand, including extensive cultural engagement with the Maori community, and represented the coming together of countries from around the world in pursuit of Rugby’s greatest prize.

As the most technically complex ceremony ever hosted before the opening match of a Rugby World Cup, the ceremony seamlessly integrated projection, lighting, sculptural scenic elements and a flying system into a venue that had never before been used for live entertainment. This was all achieved while keeping the field of play pristine for the match that followed!

It was a joy to take audiences beyond the confines of Eden Park to see the vast, natural beauty of New Zealand, using full-screen broadcast video packages. With this innovative creative approach, we were able to expand our storytelling possibilities by blending live performance elements with pre-records in never before seen ways.

Captivating audiences of all ages, it was one for the memory bank! 🏉 🇳🇿

LASTING LEGACIES: In creating and producing the Op

LASTING LEGACIES: In creating and producing the Opening, Closing and Victory Ceremonies of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games, DAE Global told a uniquely Canadian story to the world 🇨🇦. These Ceremonies showed what Canada is, how it got there and where it’s going to a worldwide audience of over three billion people. It was a very proud moment.

One of the biggest challenges these Ceremonies posed was the venue itself. Olympic protocol dictates that once the Cauldron flame is lit, it stays lit until extinguished during the Closing Ceremony 🔥. However, BC Place had an inflatable roof at the time and the risk for keeping the flame lit for two weeks in an indoor venue was high.

Working with the International Olympic Committee – IOC’s stakeholders, the City of Vancouver and BC Tourism, we devised a creative solution that addressed the challenge by designing and implementing a second “Legacy Cauldron” surrounded by a beautiful plaza, open to the public throughout the duration of the Games.

To this day, millions of people from around the world visit the commemorative plaza and enjoy this special and unique legacy gift from Vancouver 2010.

🎥 Our own Mike Reid was recently in Vancouver and shared this video of the Cauldron still looking as spectacular as ever, and still bringing joy to locals and visitors alike.
